Why Celebrities On Twitter Have Little Influence.... It's Because Most Do Not Use The @mentions

During 2010 last year, there was a study that examined how much influence celebrities and high-profiled individuals in the public eye have on Twitter

Well, it seems as though the results have shown that they have very little, or be it NO influence on us people. To be perfectly honest with you, I wasn't that too surprised over the findings.

Being a celebrity and appearing on talk shows, starring in movies, TV programmes, making records is one thing. Talking about what you are doing and getting fans to notice is certainly something else too.

It is also another however to make yourselves heard on the internet and through social networking by spreading your message across. We have all the technology in the world and it is up to us how we make use of it.

  • Why Do So Fewer Celebrities Take Time To Connect?

There are virtually thousands upon thousands of famous people on Twitter- yet the very, very small majority of them take time out to reply to their fans. Yes they are preoccupied and often so busy in their lives that they don't have the time to tweet. Which is understandable. HOWEVER, what is not understandable is that the vast majority of celebrities who sign up to Twitter, believe it is ok for them to post a couple of messages about what they are doing, and not talk to their fans.

Frankly, if they set up Twitter just so they can talk to their celebrity friends on here and not talk to us as well as talk about themselves and not reciprocate, then they might as well delete their accounts and talk to them in person instead.

Because it is in most cases, just not on.

I'm not surprised that celebrities have little influence on people on Twitter- I'm not that hugely surprised that that campaign to stay off Twitter, Facebook until $1 million dollars was raised flopped big time last year. Seeing as many celebrities do not interact with their fans, followers and @ mention, reply to them on Twitter, why should we care what they do, if they don't take the time to talk to us?

If the roles were reversed and the celebs were the fans and the fans were the famous people, and we ignored most of their messages, they wouldn't be happy at all, right? So therefore, I don't see why it is so hard to do, because it is not.

  • Celebrities Have A Duty To Respond To Fans, Of Whom Without Them, Wouldn't Be Where They Are Today

I may not be a celebrity myself, but I always reply and talk to people on Twitter, as and when I can. Last time I checked my influence level was 67 out of 100 via Tweetlevel- and I assume that 70-80% of celebrities have scored LOWER than me. But even so there are some celebs who have scored 50-60%, and yet have conversed with me a couple of times.

I am considering of thinking twice before I contemplate on downloading their music, buying their DVDs, watching their TV shows and movies and going to their concerts, plays, shows.

My message to the celebrities on Twitter is this- if you care about your fans and appreciate the fact that you have them at all, then you shouldn't need to be told to talk to them on Twitter. You need to do that yourself. You want us to know more about who you are and what you do? Share it on Twitter- and stop being passive on-line.
